I remember the winter of 2007-2008 like it was yesterday. The wind came off the lake hard, the ground stayed locked up, and job sites all over Saint Clair Shores kept getting hit after dark. Along Harper Avenue especially, crews would leave a site neat at the end of the day and come back to torn mesh, missing material, or tracks where someone had cut through. That’s the stretch that pushed me to build SCS Temporary Fence in 2008, because the jobs around here needed fast protection that didn’t slow the work down.
We’re Rodney Kowalski and our crew at SCS Temporary Fence, and we’ve spent years setting temporary fence the way it needs to be set in this city. Saint Clair Shores has that 1920_1950 housing stock in a lot of neighborhoods — brick bungalows, tight lots, mature trees, and driveways that don’t leave much room to work. In places like
Lakeview District,
Sunnydale / Princeton Area, and
Ardmore Park, we’ve got to think about footing, access, and where a gate lands before we ever unload a panel.
We do this work with the same habits every time: check the grade, set the line clean, and lock the system down so it holds when the wind picks up. Around
Veterans Memorial Park Area and the
Harper Avenue Corridor, we’ve had to deal with open lots, traffic dust, and neighbors who deserve a site that stays contained. That’s where details like
wind load resistance,
concrete steel bases, and
wheel assisted gates really earn their keep.
We’ve learned a few things the hard way:
- Fence panels need to match the site, not just the catalog.
- Storms off the lake will find any weak spot in a hurry.
- Fast access matters, but a loose gate or bad corner costs more later.
I’ve got the AFA Certified Fence Professional credential, OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification, and a State Contractor License in hand, but the real education came from muddy lots, frozen ground, and late-season wind. We still carry that same mindset into every setup near
our Saint Clair Shores service area and every call that comes in to
SCS Temporary Fence. We get it up fast, so you can get back to building.
